Finite-State Transducers in Musical Accompaniment

This article was fascinating to me because it added to my prior thoughts regarding randomization, but it was less random and more purposeful. My next thoughts through these ideas into the concept of a game and I asked myself the following question:

What if technology such as this was implemented in gaming that adapted to player's movements, actions, choices, etc. and modified the music in a way that reflected what they were doing beyond just simple sound effects, creating a unique musical experience for each player, despite them playing the same game.
